It was originally a dormitory for civil servants. It's a typical traditional Japanese house, consisting of an entrance, a parlor with tatami flooring (zashiki), a living room, a kitchen, a bathroom, a floor extension (engawa) and a closet for storing bedding (oshiire). The original structure of the house has been preserved, and it carries with it the memories of four generations of two families. In 2010, the house was listed as a historic site. After renovation by the Taoyuan City Government, it was opened to the public in 2015.
