    Commonly known as “Taoyuan's version of Ximending,” the Zhongping Shopping District has now been converted into a walking commercial district with a length of nearly 700 meters and a width of 15 meters. The already bustling Zhongping Shopping District has now become a shopping paradise. Most of the shops are teenage fashion garment retailers and small fashion boutiques. Not only can you enjoy a shopping spree here, but you can also indulge your cravings for foods. The street is home to many famous shops and restaurants, such as Xinzhen Crispy Candy, Zhongli Meatballs, Banyan Tree Grandma's Nostalgic Ice Shop and All Beef.

    Hidden in the bustling Zhongping Shopping District, the Zhongping Road Story House was built in 1930 during the Japanese colonial era. It was originally a dormitory for civil servants. It's a typical traditional Japanese house, consisting of an entrance, a parlor with tatami flooring (zashiki), a living room, a kitchen, a bathroom, a floor extension (engawa) and a closet for storing bedding (oshiire). The original structure of the house has been preserved, and it carries with it the memories of four generations of two families. In 2010, the house was listed as a historic site. After renovation by the Taoyuan City Government, it was opened to the public in 2015. It now provides visitors with an opportunity to glimpse the life of Taiwanese people during the Japanese colonial era.

    Ren Hai Temple is ranked 4th among the top 100 religious attractions selected by Taiwan Ministry of Interior Affairs. Established in 1826, and thus with a history of nearly 200 years, it is the oldest temple in Zhongli. The temple has been reconstructed five times. When it was originally built, the temple was solely dedicated to Guanyin. Subsequently, it was also dedicated to other deities, such as Matsu, Guansheng Dijun and Wenchang Dijun. With its flamboyant three-story structure, it is a temple that gives you a sense of dignity even in the crowded downtown area. Every year, various ritual activities are held in this temple. These attract people from around Taiwan, both believers who arrive to worship, as well as other visitors. This is not only a place of worship for local residents, but also a remarkable center of religious belief in Taiwan.

    Also known as Cheng'en Gate, this grand and impressive fortress gate is one of the 5 historic city gates in Taipei built during the Qing dynasty. The other four gates are the East Gate (Jingfu Gate), West Gate (Baocheng Gate), South Gate (Lizheng Gate) and Little South Gate (Chongxi Gate). The Taipei City Wall’s North Gate is the only remaining ancient city gate that retains its original appearance, consisting of a Minnan architectural style. During the Qing dynasty, it served as a major gateway from the core of Taipei City to the bustling riverside settlement of Dadaocheng.     The Railway Department Park of National Taiwan Museum is located near the Taipei City Wall’s North Gate (Cheng'en Gate). This was the site of the first Railway Department Office, which was completed in 1918 during the Japanese colonial era. After 16 years of renovation, it finally opened to the public along with related nearby historic buildings in 2020. The Railway Department Park of National Taiwan Museum comprises 6 historic buildings, including the railway department, the cafeteria, the octagon male wash room, an electrical room, a construction room, and a war command center. The railway department building was designed in a Japanese-Western eclectic architectural style, and constructed with bricks and wood. Because of its elegant appearance, the building became a symbol of the Railway Department Park. In addition to the historic buildings, permanent and special exhibitions, such as “Steam Dream Works” for kids, “Taiwan's Railway Culture,” and the “Taiwan Railway Hotel,” are available all year round. Visitors not only can admire the historic relics, but also have a deep dive into Taiwan's railway development through immersive digital experiences.

    Established in 2000, the Station Front Metro Mall is Taipei City's first underground commercial and shopping center. It is structurally connected to the massive underground transit hub that lies beneath and around Taipei Main Station, including the Zhongshan and Beimen MRT stations. Many shops line its 1 km length with 27 exits. These include fashion garment shops, game stores, eateries and food & beverage franchises.     Located on the opposite side of the main building of the National Taiwan Museum, the Natural History Branch of the National Taiwan Museum, also known as the Taiwan Land Bank Exhibition Hall, opened in 1923. This building served as the Taipei branch office of the Nippon Kangyo Bank during the Japanese colonial era. In 1946, it was renamed the Taiwan Land Bank and served as the bank’s Taiwan main office. It thus played a crucial role in the subsequent land reform programs within Taiwan. It has now been repurposed as a paleontology exhibition center focusing on natural history, displaying a number of prehistoric fossils and replicas of large-scale dinosaur fossils. In addition, the museum also has permanent displays related to the Land Bank, including its vault and many historical documents.

    Opened in 2009, Q Square is a centrally-located shopping center near Taipei Main Station. It’s easily accessible by bus, Taipei Metro, Taiwan Railways and the Taiwan High Speed Rail system. Designed by the famous architect Li Zuyuan and space designer Chen Ruixian, the passageways have an average width of more than six meters. The atrium is equipped with a glass canopy, allowing natural sunlight to come inside the building.     Established during the Qing dynasty, the Taipei 228 Peace Park, formerly named the Taipei New Park, is the oldest park in Taipei. To commemorate the victims of the 228 Incident, the park was renamed the Taipei 228 Peace Park in 1996. The Taipei 228 Memorial Museum was established a year later. The park was Taipei's major gathering place for gay men in the past. It was also an important location for scenes in Taiwan's gay literature. The Japanese garden landscaping, the pond and the stone arch bridge are where the stories took place. These years, the government has been keeping up the effort to promote gender equality, and specially built the “Rainbow Gate” in the Taipei 228 Peace Park to reflect a page of Taiwan’s history and respond with an action of gender neutrality.

    The Ximen Shopping District is commonly called “Ximending,” which means “west gate district” in Mandarin Chinese. It is one of the busiest shopping areas in Taipei, and is packed with retail shops, restaurants, bars and street performers. Considered as Taipei's version of Tokyo's Harajuku's Takeshita Street, the Ximen Shopping District is very popular among young people. From fast fashion garments to quirky yet affordable eating places, this is a place where young people can fully enjoy their leisure time. In addition, the Ximen Shopping District is also home to the Red House. This elegant octagonal red-brick building was a marketplace when it was opened in the early 20th century. After WWII, it was used as a theater. On weekends, the north square in the front of the entrance becomes a creative bazaar, drawing lots of people looking for handcrafted goods. The south square behind the Red House is the famous Ximen Red House Outdoor Bar Area, home to many popular gay bars and restaurants. From early evening until midnight, you can see a lot of people talking and chilling at this outdoor sitting area. No matter where you are from or who you are, you can always take a seat and enjoy the cheerful atmosphere.

    Located near the New Taipei Huanhe Expressway and MRT Sanchong Station, the New Taipei Metropolitan Park is a leisure park of the largest scale in New Taipei City. It is also the first outdoor playground that incorporates the topography of its embankment. The park covers a vast area of 4 hectares, with seven sets of playground equipment, 31 outdoor slides, and more than 100 amusement facilities. Each has its own unique characteristic, and some are even patterned after protected animals in Taiwan, such as the Mikado pheasant, the Formosan landlocked salmon and Formosan black bear. Information boards introduce these animals to the public, highlighting an animal’s name, behaviors and the physical features. This achieves the goal of educational entertainment.

    Located in Chang Gung University in Taoyuan and opened to public in 2004, today the Formosa Plastics Group (FPG) Museum is a wonderful place to acquire new knowledge and be close to nature. The museum consists of six exhibition levels, including an underground level, and it covers an area of over 2,500 square meters. Admission is free. Its main purpose is to introduce FPG’s development, provide industry background, and highlight the business philosophy of FPG’s founders, Wang Yung-ching and Wang Yung-tsai. An audio guide and scheduled guided tours are also available. After visiting the museum, visitors can stroll through the campus of Chang Gung University. The university’s distinctive buildings are popular locations for music videos produced by local artists.

    To commemorate the dedication of late President Chiang Kai-shek, Zhiqing Lake was named after his pseudonym. The lake is surrounded by trees and flowers, including the Poonga oil tree, green maple, and red blooms of oleander in the summer. The lake is at the front portion of Chang Gung University, in the middle of the park. Behind the lake is a vast lush green lawn that extends to a little hill, and includes walking trails and a pavilion for resting. While ascending the hill, coral bean trees greet you on your way to the pavilion. Here, the blooms of tea trees in the winter create a fascinating scene. Above the pavilion, climbing branches of Ficus pumila have clusters of oval seeds. The needlelike leaves of bald cypress trees cover the ground, all contributing to a poetic autumn landscape.

After merging with the Taipei, Banqiao and Shulin breweries, and using state-of-the-art equipment, the Taoyuan Sake Brewery of the Taiwan Tobacco & Liquor Corporation has now become north Taiwan's largest sake brewery. Today, the brewery not only produces alcoholic beverages, but also new products such as red yeast cookies, a successful product created in collaboration with a local cookie factory. The brewery has also set up an exhibition area for the public. It displays not only the winemaking process, but also related items. This makes it a fun and educational place for people of all ages.
