It features a swallowtail-shaped roof ridge, an architectural design that is rare in northern Taiwan and could only be constructed by scholars of the time. The craftsmanship is exquisite and detailed. In addition to serving as a memorial center for the Chen family, dedicated to ancestors who settled in Taiwan, it has also been designated as a third-level historical monument by Taoyuan City.

    Shishan Residence

The Shishan Residence is a courtyard house in the traditional Minnan style. In front, a low wall in the inner courtyard allows the residence to maintain a sense of seclusion and tranquility. The residence is part of the Chen family's Te-Hsin Hall, belonging to the third son. It was built in the 12th year of the Showa era (1937). The inscription on the doorframe was written by Mr. Li Huayu, who formerly served as the magistrate of Haishan County. The entrance to the residence features hanging tubes, brackets, and cochin pottery, resembling the architectural style of a temple. The residence is still inhabited, and is very distinctive.

It's a typical traditional Japanese house, consisting of an entrance, a parlor with tatami flooring (zashiki), a living room, a kitchen, a bathroom, a floor extension (engawa) and a closet for storing bedding (oshiire). The original structure of the house has been preserved, and it carries with it the memories of four generations of two families. In 2010, the house was listed as a historic site. After renovation by the Taoyuan City Government, it was opened to the public in 2015. It now provides visitors with an opportunity to glimpse the life of Taiwanese people during the Japanese colonial era. ※ Zhongping Road Story House is closed Mondays.
If closed, the alternative is Li Jing Ding.

    Li Jing Ding

The Li Jing Ding building was constructed in 1941 during the Japanese colonial era as the main residence for the Zhongli District government. It has also been used as housing for police families. The building was a witness to the Zhongli Incident of 1977, a milestone in the development of Taiwan's democracy. The Taoyuan City Government's Department of Cultural Affairs designated it as a historic building in 2012. After a study, planning and repair, the site has opened to public. Through exhibitions and lectures, Li Jing Ding has become an art and cultural salon in the Zhongli area, passing down local knowledge and addressing social issues.
