During this time it is always crowded with people preparing for the New Year.

To reach the main hall, you need to climb up 89 steps, which represent Chang Kai-Shek’s age when he died. The changing of the guard ceremony takes place every hour on the hour from 09:00 in the main hall. In addition to the majestic main hall of the memorial, the exquisite Chinese garden around the building and the vast plaza are worth visiting. If you come here early in the morning, you can see people practicing qigong on the grounds.

    Ximending Commercial District
This district acquired its name during the Japanese Rule era. At the time, most people lived in the city center, and Ximen served as a suburban recreational place. In 1896, the first theater, "Tokyo Pavilion," was inaugurated. In 1922, the area was formally named "Ximen." In the early days, Ximen was brimming with movie theaters, mostly on Ermei Street, Chengdu Road, and Xining S. Road. The theaters were key to Ximen's development. After the Chinese nationalist government relocated to Taiwan in 1949, investment in Ximen increased. In addition to movie theaters, department stores and other businesses appeared. When the Zhonghua Shopping Mall opened, Ximen became Taiwan’s largest entertainment hub. This district has been a witness to history, and it is at the center of younger-generation trends in fashion and culture. Middle-aged and elderly visitors enjoy finding traces of the past in Ximen, while young people wear the latest clothing. People mingle and exchange their views here. Everyone can find what they need, right here in Ximen Shopping District!
