Daxi was the earliest developed area in Taoyuan. The famous Daxi Street actually comprises the historic shophouses on Heping Road, Zhongshan Road and Zhongyang Road. The street extends a wide range of areas, where the facades of the historic houses are well preserved. These houses were built in Baroque style but decorated with both Baroque ornamentation and characteristic totems of Minnan (Southern Fujian, China), constituting a unique feature of Daxi. In addition to the historic architectures, the local specialty braised dried bean curd is widely loved by the local people. Because of the good water quality, the dried bean curd has a nice and chewy texture. It is a souvenir that local and foreign tourists make sure not to miss when they visit Daxi.

The Daxi Bridge has a rich history that dates back to 1934 when it was first constructed as a bamboo-wooden bridge spanning the Dahan River. It served as a crucial link between Ruian Road and Daxi Old Street, providing a vital passage for the residents of Daxi to access the outside world and connect the eastern and western areas of the river. Despite enduring damage from typhoons, the bridge has been reconstructed twice to reflect its original Japanese colonial-era suspension bridge design. Its architectural style now seamlessly blends with the traditional houses along Daxi Old Street, featuring an intricate façade with cupolas, and a deck adorned with beautifully carved stone railings and red tiles. The result is a majestic and elegant structure that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing. Walking across the Daxi Bridge offers visitors an unparalleled view of the stunning Shihmen Reservoir and Mt. Guanyin. To make the most of this breathtaking vista, benches are placed along the bridge, providing an opportunity to pause, rest, and take in the beauty of the surroundings. -

The Daxi Puji Temple has been a pillar of faith for the residents of Daxi since its establishment in 1902. Dedicated to Guansheng Dijun, Fuyou Dijun, and Siming Zhenjun, the temple has a rich history of over 100 years and continues to serve as the community's spiritual center. Each year on the 24th of June of the Lunar Calendar, the temple hosts a grand celebration in honor of Guansheng Dijun's birthday. This event is highly anticipated by locals and is often referred to as the "second Lunar New Year's Day." The temple is also a popular destination for those seeking blessings during the Lunar New Year Holiday. After worshipping, visitors can take a leisurely stroll through Daxi Old Street, soaking in the vibrant atmosphere and sampling local delicacies.

Nostalgic memories of a Taiwanese pop star
Charming old brick alleys
Did you know that before becoming a pop diva, Fong Fei-fei, also known as "the Queen of Hats" for her signature headpieces on stage, grew up in the humble "back alleys" next to the Daxi Puji Temple? Today, visitors can pay tribute to her legacy at the Musical Note Wall of Singer Fong Fei-fei, a modern wall art depicting her silhouettes located at the entrance to the alleys. Unlike the bustling Heping Old Street, the maze-like back alleys of Daxi offer a glimpse into the quieter, more intimate side of the town. -
