    Unique oval caisson ceiling

Jieyun Temple is a historically significant temple located near the west gate of the ancient Fangqiao City. The temple has a rich history related to Zhang-Quan Fighting, which was an armed confrontation between Hokkien immigrants. Along with Dazhong Temple, which was established to commemorate the Zhangzhou people who died in the fighting, Jieyun Temple, formerly known as Zhonghe Ciyunyan Temple, was built mainly to enshrine Guanyin, the Goddess of Mercy. Jieyun Temple is known for its impressive collection of ancient plaques and couplets, and the main hall’s roof is adorned with intricately carved wooden figures of flying immortals wrapped in gold foil. One unique feature of Jieyun Temple is its oval-shaped caisson ceiling, a departure from the typical circular design found in most Taiwanese temples. This architectural detail holds significant historical and religious value and sets Jieyun Temple apart from other temples in the area.
